Join us for a screening of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with a difference at Southgate Cinema - Melbourne's only silent cinema!

A silent cinema? How does it work, we hear you ask? You will be provided with individual headphones and audio kits to listen to the film, or you can bring your own headphones. Either way, you can adjust the volume to your own liking and better still, you can munch on all the popcorn you like without the guy in the seat next to you elbowing you in the ribs for making too much noise!

Apart from being a silent cinema, the Southgate Cinema is also unique to Melbourne in in that it provides an outdoor experience while remaining undercover inside the centre, as you sit back and relax in a deck chair under the open atrium.

Starring Robert Downey-Jnr and Jude Law, a Game of Shadows picks up shortly after the first film, with the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson drawn even deeper into his manic quest to unravel the web of murder, corruption and blackmail that Moriarty has woven.

Before the film we will catch up for a drink or two and/or bite to eat at BearBrass. All food and drinks at own expense.

Good to know:
  • Small wrapped cold snacks and non-alcoholic beverages purchased from within Southgate can be consumed in the Cinema. These include chocolates, confectionery, water and soft drinks. Hot food and drinks, BYO food, drinks or eskies are not permitted.
  • While the Southgate Cinema is indoors, Southgate is an open air centre. We recommend patrons wear clothing layers or bring a jacket in case the weather turns cool on a particular night. Blankets or rugs are permitted.
