If you are looking for Melbourne’s most impressive array of high quality artisans, local producers, culinary creations, and unique craft makers, look no further than
Pentridge Market, where historic prison cells that once used to house some of Victoria's most notorious criminals have been taken over by a far more wholesome crew.
The bluestone prison, which was built in 1850 and closed in 1997, is now home to a weekly market selling produce, craft and artisan wares from its historic
D Division prison cells and outdoor surrounds.
The market features about 40 stalls, including about 22 inside the former prison selling fresh produce, craft, art and homewares.
Buskers provide entertainment, and food and drink options are offered, including emu and crocodile burgers, Hungarian apple strudels, Dutch pancakes, coffee and chai tea.
Please note, there is no ATM at this particular market, so be sure to come cashed up! Check this review on
